Find the Red Maple on Fire in the Rain at my Photo Art Site

Just for the fun of it, I challenge you to locate a Maple tree on Fire in the Rain 



Awhile back I was out shooting when a brief, if somewhat heavy pattering of rain hit, and I had no choice other than to shoot this maple tree. Later as I looked it over using Affinity Photo software, I decided to dance it up a bit. So I spent the better part of 3 hours using several photo editing tools and layers trying my best to make this a standout image that some would end buying, and hanging on their wall. I have used it, and I have gifted it for birthdays and Christmas, as gifts. It's one of my favorites from a sense of impact and tranquilness. It simply works for me and I hope you enjoy the fun getting there.

Obviously I wont share a pic of it so it will be a fun escape from the norm just to see how long it takes to find it, and trust it's not that hard. If you will, add a comment and let me know

From Dull to Dramatic Photography

While this may not be dramatic in a bright happy colorful sense it is so, if in a dark and foreboding way. With this subject I will admit it was easier than if I had chosen an image which was bright and colorful with lots of sunlight, still even then one can cause an ordinary image to appear near HDR without all the added work and in many cases the use of software to produce the tonal mapping needed. Take this original image of a door within an abandoned barn, with the use of flash. From Drop Box As you can see the amount of light hitting this well defines all of the aspects of the term abandoned, the failing paint, the rust on the handle, the cobweb within the latch opening and generally the decadent condition overall. This much light reflects really more than I want in this photo, so rather than lowering the exposure and losing too much information (btw this works well in most well-lit sunjects, i.e. lowering exposure, I am not the best at flash adjustments, so I use PP or post

Shooting Christmas Can be Fun.......or........

Shooting can be a lot of fun. Formal shots seem to take a lot of prep work if one wants to get everything perfect, like making sure nothing in the background conflicts with the subject which is your critical Aunt saying she doesn't like it that Bernie's coat is so ugly hanging on the wall behind me. Or just the usual clutter which can easily invade a nice grouping of the family. It pays to take the time to pick out a bare wall or large window so long as the flash will not bounce back at you. In the other hand if you are going for the candid approach, and want to avoid the background clutter which is unavoidable in most cases, try placing a lens of portrait class, say a Canon EF 135mm f/2L USM Lens for Canon SLR Cameras which when opened wide you'll produce enough bokeh, or background blur to avoid most of the stuff and leave you with a wonderful clear shot of your Aunt who won't be able to critique your photo without using a compliment. My iPhone X is Not Sounding a Text Alert: WHY??

. Can you tell me why my new iPhone X is not sounding a text alert, a call alert?    Yes this is my first iPhone, so this may be the cause of not knowing what was up with not hearing the alerts to both texts and calls, so forgive my unfamiliarity. So this is perhaps for any of you who might also be new first time owners of an iPhone X, and maybe for other models too. It turns out there was a slider on the left side of the phone but hidden under the cover. And without even looking I pulled off the Defender rubber cover to see a small switch/slider that was showing a very thin line of red. Once I slid it to black I could hear the alerts. Trip to Mt St Helens Foiled by the Clouds

I often wonder what it is that takes me back again and again to the same places. The dream of any self-respecting photographer is to capture the best he can do every time out. Unfortunately more often than not when I set out specifically to capture a subject, in this case, Mt St Helens, weather or great light makes the shoot untenable. We can push exposure to gain brightness, we can open Aperture to add light, but many times it simply isn't up to my demands. Oh I know there are many photographers today who seem to sell by using the dark, smudgy technique, and that is a fine space to produce good work in, but for me if I need good light there simply is no substitute. On this particular trip I had heard the weather was going to be sunny as the morning progressed, so we left around 9:30 am for a 90 minute drive to the mountain. Your Customer Doesn't Just Buy a Print.............

What a Client Really Wants A customer who buys your prints, don't just buy the pictures. They buy into the way you do your prints. And they way we shoot is to listen to the client. When I produce an image, be it a portrait shoot, a Hospital's need for a print, a University or a Corporate entity, I have to think about the reason they want to use the prints. A corporate client may want explosive splash, a University may want to explore a social aspect, a parent may want the lasting beauty of their Daughter, and so on. A baby shoot for a GrandParent vs a young couple can be quite an array of differing expectations. One couple recently told me "We want our baby's pictures for GrandPa and GrandMa's special photo wall. I want them to be able to show them off to their visiting friends and family." Soft Proofing in Photoshop

Soft Proofing an image is the most accurate way to achieve the look of how the print will appear on paper. Ever noticed that your print doesn't come out quite as vibrant as it looked in Photoshop? Surely there are a host of reasons outside the scope of this article, but I'll make the assumption you already are familiar with image preparation and color profiling, paper selection and the how of printing basics. Once you have these down the next step is to get your image to the very closest that your camera's image sensor captured. Open your file in Photoshop. Next choose View, Proof Setup, Custom. The window reads Customize Proof Condition. Select Device to Simulate, then proceed to choose the paper profile you will be printing on. There will come associated with the imbedded profiles Photoshop and your printer software has already configured.
