Had it been shot in RAW the background would have been able to have been isolated in a layer, kept at a manageable exposure level while adjusting the brightness in the foreground for the subject. This is a perfect example why so many of us shoot in raw today. The jpeg is acceptable for perhaps an advertisment, but not for a high quality print in your home or office.
