If you've found yourself vacillating between a sudden elation one day to a dramatic panic the next over your investments lately, stop doing that. There's never been a 15 year period while invested in the S&P500 that shows a major loss. So staying in it for the long haul is your best option, unless you are nearing end of life. At that point it becomes either your philanthropic concerns or your heir's concerns unless you are living off your investments and won't have enough time to recover.
