What's so Special about Chicken of the Woods

Discover What's so Special about this Mushroom

Can it be dried and hung as art?

Yes but its always better to leave them where they belong,  unless of course you ahve a mushroom collecting permit

Can it be cooked and eaten?

A word of Caution: This mushroom has a lemony, meaty taste. Some think it tastes like its chicken namesake; others describe the flavor as being more like crab or lobster. Whatever your opinion, the chicken fungus makes a great substitute for meat in almost any dish.

It's important to note that this is one of those mushrooms that sometimes causes gastric distress in certain people. If you want to avoid a possible stomach misadventure, only try a little bit your first time to see what it does to you. Also always avoid chicken of the woods growing on conifers, eucalyptus, or cedar trees, as these are reported to contain toxins that can make people sick.

Laetiporus conifericola - A yellowish species found in Western North America that often fruits on conifers.

Laetiporus gilbertsonii - The West Coast version that's found on oaks and eucalyptus trees.

What are they called?

Happy St Patrick's Day March 17

My Fav Image for St Patty's Day Just for You

You'll find this image of Crimson Clover much sharper at Rich Collins Photography

But before you rush over I should say that my lineage includes a share of Irish. But then there's so much more from my Father's side as American Native, Choctaw, and as well from my Mother's family from Germany, within Alsace Lorraine border area which splits the land between France and Germany. So I lay claim as a munti-national emigrant long ago.

What does St Patrick's Day celebrate? More recently we have done some alcoholic celebrations, what with green beer and the like, but historically, Saint Patrick's Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick, is a cultural and religious celebration held on 17 March, the traditional death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland.

St Patrick’s Day is celebrated in many parts of the world, especially by Irish communities and organizations. Many people wear an item of green clothing on the day. Parties featuring Irish food and drinks that are dyed in green food color are part of this celebration. It is a time when children can indulge in sweets and adults can enjoy a “pint” of beer at a local pub. Many restaurants and pubs offer Irish food or drink, which include:
  • Irish brown bread.
  • Corned beef and cabbage.
  • Beef and Guinness pie.
  • Irish cream chocolate mousse cake.
  • Irish coffee.
  • Irish potato champ, also known as poundies, cally or pandy.
  • Irish stew.
  • Irish potato soup.
Some people plan a pilgrimage to St Patrick’s Purgatory, which is commonly associated with penance and spiritual healing since the early 13th century. It is on Station Island in Lough Derg in County Donegal where St Patrick had a vision promising that all who came to the sanctuary in penitence and faith would receive a pardon for their sins. Bitcoin Print

If you've found yourself vacillating between a sudden elation one day to a dramatic panic the next over your investments lately, stop doing that. There's never been a 15 year period while invested in the S&P500 that shows a major loss. So staying in it for the long haul is your best option, unless you are nearing end of life. At that point it becomes either your philanthropic concerns or your heir's concerns unless you are living off your investments and won't have enough time to recover.

Either way I am about to settle your nerves. Linking through to my site you will find a memorable image to purchase of the Bitcoin above which is for all intents and purposes on fire. Hang this, as a lesson learned when it comes to investing. Though things may seem to be dying right in front of your eyes, if you hang onto long enough it (the S&P500 i.e.) will bounce back. And this print will never lose value. In a year or two you'll look back on it as a comfort for not selling at a low, then not being able to buy back in at the right time.

Use this print as a way on tempering yourself from making a financial mistake in the market.
