Go for Unusual over the Fireplace

Long ago we decided to make the hanging area above our fireplaces a special area for really special works of art. Just how special is your? Take a good long look and tell me that it isn't quite as special as you once thought it was. Maybe now its time for something really unusual

Let's Celebrate the Covid-19 Clear Skies Effect

All across the globe we are seeing clear skies due to the lack of smog

And while the virus isn't anything to celebrate, certainly we can try to enjoy our skies more now.

As a contrast to what we're seeing now I wanted to post a sky I had shot on a stormy afternoon which was perhaps my all time favorite and I'm hoping you enjoy it as much as I do.

I call it Sky on Sky on Fire
and here's that clear sky I'm seeing over the Tehachipi Mountains

Thanks for taking a look and if you feel inspired, please link through and leave me a comment, I'd appreciate it

What's so Special about Chicken of the Woods

Discover What's so Special about this Mushroom

Can it be dried and hung as art?

Yes but its always better to leave them where they belong,  unless of course you ahve a mushroom collecting permit

Can it be cooked and eaten?

A word of Caution: This mushroom has a lemony, meaty taste. Some think it tastes like its chicken namesake; others describe the flavor as being more like crab or lobster. Whatever your opinion, the chicken fungus makes a great substitute for meat in almost any dish.

It's important to note that this is one of those mushrooms that sometimes causes gastric distress in certain people. If you want to avoid a possible stomach misadventure, only try a little bit your first time to see what it does to you. Also always avoid chicken of the woods growing on conifers, eucalyptus, or cedar trees, as these are reported to contain toxins that can make people sick.

Mushrooms On A Log II Photograph by Rich Collins

Where do you find them?

Laetiporus conifericola - A yellowish species found in Western North America that often fruits on conifers.

Laetiporus gilbertsonii - The West Coast version that's found on oaks and eucalyptus trees.

What are they called?

Chicken of the Woods

Rating Artists Galleries Online

Rating Galleries Really Helps an Artist Gain Attention

http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/1-rich-collins.html

The idea behind rating artists galleries, be they a photographer like myself, painter or a sculpture, weaver, pottery artist or an array of other artists, can be to give them the kudos they deserve. But more than likely it brings awareness to buyers in the field. After all most artists, whether they admit it or not, do seek income from their work.  We will ask for ratings so that our art stands out from the rest, but only if you feel it deserves your highest rating. Artists spend a lot of time and money heading to destinations and shooting, and equally as much effort in editing in Photoshop or Lightroom, which can take many hours. We spend a lot of money, many of us do, on equipment, camera bodies, numerous lenses, accessories and software, external hard discs, RAID storage, much more DDS3 memory, portrait backdrops and light stands, strobes, battery packs, remotes, and on and on and on. No matter who you decide to rate or comment on, please consider the effort and financial aspects of our work.

On a Facebook page, certainly most ratings and likes are given because of a friendship, which is fine. But at my art site, Fine Art America I seek ratings for discovering what viewers think of my work and for the potential income that follows. And in asking for your rating I should hasten to add that I am just beginning at this new site, so you won't have to wade through thousands or even hundreds of photos I've taken and edited, there's just a few thus far.

I appreciate your visit to my Galleries link. When you get there, if you choose, please add a comment. Those comments are at least as helpful as your ratings.

Do You Have a Presence Online?

If you're also an artist, feel free to add your blog or site and we'll get it up in front of tons of viewers here at Shooting Outside. We will make sure it is not spammy but if it passes the sniff test, we will leave it alone. And at no charge that ain't a bad deal. Thanks for reading.
