Merry Christmas - Peace on Earth

.
.

John Lennon

So This is Christmas

So this is Christmas
And what have you done?
Another year over
And a new one just begun

And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong

And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight

A very merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Christmas
And what have we done?
Another year over
And a new one just begun

And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

My iPhone X is Not Sounding a Text Alert: WHY??

.
Can you tell me why my new iPhone X is not sounding a text alert, a call alert?

Yes this is my first iPhone, so this may be the cause of not knowing what was up with not hearing the alerts to both texts and calls, so forgive my unfamiliarity. So this is perhaps for any of you who might also be new first time owners of an iPhone X, and maybe for other models too. It turns out there was a slider on the left side of the phone but hidden under the cover. And without even looking I pulled off the Defender rubber cover to see a small switch/slider that was showing a very thin line of red. Once I slid it to black I could hear the alerts. Just for anyone not knowing here is the slider switch, borrowed from a photo online (from of all places-androidcentral).

The 1st Fine Art Photograph Beleived to be Taken

.

Ist Fine Art Photograph Ever Taken

When did Fine Art Photography begin, and who was credited ?

Alfred Stieglit's photograph of 'The Steerage' in 1907 is considered by many historians to be the most important photograph ever made. Stieglitz was notable for introducing fine art photography into museum collections.

Any one of us could pick this photo apart on numerous points in the world as great or even good photography. It looks mistakenly disheveled, even messy, the subjects aren't particularly interesting, it is not level, the best focus is perhaps on an empty plank which does not indicate or highlight much interest, there are no vessel markings, no way to tell if passengers are continuing to embark or disembark on some kind of journey, literally the composition is sloppy at best, and no single point of subject  which is clear in our minds as we attempt to clarify the meaning of the photograph. However it does something at that time, that no other photo has ever done, at least to many historians. It offers a particular photographer's artistic expression.

Many of us continue to argue against that specifically when viewing photographs such as the one above, or, quite honestly millions of other photography supposedly deemed Fine Art. Why? Quite simply because photography used to be referred to as a craft, not an art. And here begins the legacy of the argument for which we all wonder, 'What is it that makes a photograph not a craft, but an art'.

If it is exclusively that a photographer in planning their shoot, their subject, their technique, is to be something they created, as a style, then indeed any one who picks up a camera can claim that, but only if they can demonstrate that it is their own style. I can buy into that, but can anyone who copies a style then claim that their photography is fine art?

That's a question that can only be answered by the buyer.

.

.

Certainly this shot I took of a streambed well below a waterfall is considered fine art, merely since I took creative license to enhance beyond what mother nature presented when I took the shot. That is clear. If you could see the original you would immediately recognize muted colors. Composition and all the other photographic factors aren't enough. They help quite a lot, but they cannot alone make a photograph fine art. Below is an example.
.
.
.
.

It is merely a bird in flight. Now how one could make this a piece of fine art to hang on a wall, is then up for discussion. Which then leaves us with the struggle to find photography as a Fine Art.

I am offering up my interpretation of my photography, as an example, and it is up to you to judge how well I have done in creating pieces which you might consider as a work of 'fine art'.

Your Office Wall Art is Getting Stale

Your Office Wall Art is Getting Stale

You've probably been thinking about what your clients are seeing every time they come into your office(s) and how stale is might be to them. A lot of us feel that way. Think about how you feel when you repeatedly go into your dentist or doctor's offices, your attorney's office or even your veterinarian's office, and there's no changes to their wall art. It is quite a boring state. They know it, and you may know it about your office art too.

The question is not is it stale, the question is when will you do something about it? Regardless if you buy today from me, or not, at least take this quick opportunity to copy the link, or if you have a few minutes, link through to view if any of my art will be appropriate for your walls. Isn't about time?

Working Horse Art

For Lovers of Working Horse Art

The true horse lover knows when a working day starts and ends. So does the working horse. You can hear it in their breath, feel it in their sweat and muscles. And you can see it in their tongue and teeth as this photo reveals the effort it takes to get the job done.

This photo was captured at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, Vancouver, Washington, on a day historically celebrating when the Hudson Bay Company occupied the land and the laborers, known then as Kanakas, Hawaiian laborers, who were charged with farming the land with horses. Thus this represents the era of the early 1800's. By 1828, the farm “reaped 4,000 bushels of potatoes, 1,300 of wheat, 1,000 of barley, 400 of corn, 300 of peas, and 100 of oats, and in the spring of 1829 they tended 200 pigs, 153 cattle [not including calves], and 50 goats.” By 1829, 200 hogs and an Hawaiian swineherd kept the Fort supplied with pork (*1). This photo represents all the hard work done by the horses of that era in the Pacific North West at the Hudson Bay Company.

The When and Why of Buying Art

The When and Why of Buying Art

Are you the type that sees a piece of art, be it a painting or a photo already in the frame in a variety store, and stuffs it in the shopping cart? Is that really all the thought you give to buying a piece that represents what you enjoy in life? Or do you give it more thought than that?

Do you for example, go to art galleries, or farmers markets to peruse the local talent, taking your time and perhaps even snapping a phone photo to remember the piece and the artist, the photographer? Taking that pic home to think it over, and/or discussing it with another? I am a photographer and that is exactly how I do it. I have been known to buy on the spot. But the piece has to be something that grabs me, or is relevant to my surroundings or my treasured past. But mostly I am thoughtful about a purchase. It's not so much what it costs, though it can be if the piece is expensive for my budget. It is more about what I want on my wall, and what I want to project to the world of visitors to my home or office, about who I am, what I respect and how they might think of me.

Our lives, all of us, are full, and we are busy, so busy it seems we hardly have time to think of adding another project or event which involves choosing art. But we return to our homes nearly every single day. And what I want in my home, besides all the expensive furniture and appliances and technology gadgets, is something which either relaxes and comforts me or what inspires or motivates me. And that is the art I choose to hang. I take nothing away from all the photos of family and friends, those are keepsakes revered for ages, to be passed on. But the art that we choose for motivation or comfort, should be something we take time to think about, reflect upon, and hang in special places in our homes.

I wrote this piece to help you make choosing a piece or two here at my gallery online nearly effortless. I would be honored if you took the time to visit before moving on. Thank you

If You Could Choose any Art to Hang, what would it be?

Something Experimental

Something Less Traveled?

Something more Creative?

Something Flowery?

Something Wet?

Something Animalistic?

Something Personal?

Something Unusual?

Like a mushroom face in a log?

or several images in one?

Or a Grandiose Mountain Storm?

Which would it be? For Your Walls?

Puxatawny Phil Predicts an Early Spring 2017

Phil Predicts an Early Spring

He crawled out of his hiding spot underground and just before the sun broke, Phil, under a cloud-covered shadow, predicted an early Spring. I'm not entirely convinced though, as he was partially in the sun as he peeped out the message. I'm losing faith in his integrity.

What is it about adding Wall Art that Makes Your Place so Special
