My Gear

                 The Canon EOS 5DII

I've been shooting with Canon gear most of my professional career. Obviously for the majority of time I've shot with film bodies, but more recently digital has taken over nearly all of my image captures. Starting with lower end Canon's as well as Fuji and Olympus, my learning curve was fairly quick but my goals were not achieved. I could not get the large print quality I wanted until the Canon 5D came along. I already owned the Canon EOS 30D and with some very good results. High resolution was pretty good, but I wanted ever larger prints. With the introduction of the EOS 5D I felt I had finally reached the quality I was used to with the full frame capability of Canon film cameras I had used previously. Now that the semi-affordable EOS 5D had finally been introduced with a Full Frame sensor, I was very happy. But as technical specifications always give way to even better technical specs, I was ready when the successor came along, the Canon EOS 5DII.

This one really gives me everything I need and most all of what I want. Full frame sensor with 21MP and Digic 4 image processor and full HD 1080p video, the highest possible resolution for even the highest end motion picture cameras. For what I shoot mostly, landscapes and nature, I could not ask for any more.

As for lenses, I find the 70-200 F2.8L IS as well as the 17-40 F4 L and the 24-105 F4L IS my most often used lenses. If I am doing a portrait then the 135 F2.0 L USM is my best option. Among my lenses these are my favorites. I have others that seem to sit for long periods and probably should trade them or sell them, but I am more a collector than a trader, so they sit till I find an appropriate shoot.

I thought some of you who follow my blog might like to hear what gear I use, but I want to be clear I am not in any way being compensated for this post from any site, manufacturer or affiliate.

Chosen among a number of artists at Art for Cancer

Among other artists Cid palacio was kind enough to add one of my pieces to her Showcase Gallery at Art for Cancer, Digital Art Gallery.

Take a moment to view all the artists who are giving their art for an outstanding cause. And if you find that any particular piece would grace your walls, then consider a purchase from that artist, which will benefit not only the artist but Cid's Art for Cancer Group.

Art for Cancer Group by Cid

I want to take the time to thank Cid Palacio of Art for Cancer for showcasing a number of us artists at their website. The idea behind Art for Cancer is to promote art donations for work on  the fight against cancer and I am just one of many helping with this cause. Here is their mission.

About the ART for Cancer Group

We are a group of global artists, representing over 30 countries, who have united to help in the fight against cancer.

We have each committed to donate a portion of our art sales (ranging from 25% to 100%) to various cancer charities.

During our first year, our members have donated nearly 2000 pieces of wall art, where a % of sales is designated to a cancer charity.

Here you will find a working list of the cancer charities currently supported by individual members within the group.

This site is a consolidation of the various ART for Cancer Groups we have formed throughout online art communities.

Our Flagship group was started in February 2009 at Imagekind. We are thankful to this organization for the opportunity.

Click here, to view a list of group members, as well as access their individual profiles, art portfolios and contact information.

If you have a piece that you find appropriate for this cause, please consider offering your donation per cent toward this cause to fight cancer. Take a look at your work and I'm sure you'll find more than one piece which could help those who are fighting cancer. And give someone a great future.

The piece I've chosen to donate is White Gladiola by Rich Collins

Buying Art online at Imagekind

The Icon you see above represents the way you can support artists at Imagekind. At last count we had 50,000, of which I am one, but I think this number is stale and personally feel our membership has grown well beyond that, so your choices of artists to support is immense.

Let's assume you are reading this because you are in the market for updating art, over-the-mantle art, kitchen art, bedroom art, dining room art great room art, corporate conference room art, medical office spaces art or art you wish to gift to someone special.

By clicking on the link below the icon you'll be taken to Imagekind's website where you could literally spend a month to a year reviewing the many talented artists showing their Portfolios, but perhaps you'd like it if it were quicker. And it is if you simply type in tag words, for the type of art you are seeking. A few example might be Landscape, B&W or Black & White, pastel, country, Easter, HDR, waterfalls, lightning and so on. In fact the list is nearly limitless. You'll come up with page after page of offerings.

Take your time to look through the many selections and I can promise you if you are set on adding to your collection, you will not leave without finding something which pleases your eye, or those of whom you've decided to purchase a gift for. Now of course I'd be more than pleased if within your search you landed on my page, and purchased a print, but for the support of some truly gifted artists at Imagekind I'd also be pleased to find that you found exactly what you were searching for with any IK artist.

Wherever you decide to start, know that Imagekind not only uses the best printers available, but backs each purchase with a 100% money back guarantee. That kind of guarantee can only mean satisfaction.

And remember that when you purchase art at Imagekind, you are supporting a creative community from which I feel some of the world's best current artists reside. Help a member artist continue their legacy.

Full disclosure; I am not paid nor compensated in any way for the writing of this article. Other than the sale of prints from my personal Galleries this article is written to promote the general welfare of all artists at Imagekind.
